How our first event at Re/creation Cafe proved Coffeehouse Cinema could grow, move, and still feel like itself.

A New Chapter
Volume 6 marked a brand new chapter for Eddie and me.
After finishing our fifth Coffeehouse Cinema event, it became very clear that we were reaching a point of unsustainability with our current setup. There were a lot of reasons for that, but the biggest reason was simple: we had grown faster than we were anticipating.
The amount of people we could fit into the space was no longer conducive to the amount of people we felt Coffeehouse Cinema could support in the future. And on top of that, we had very high aspirations of wanting to do an event the day before Juneteenth, which would have been about three weeks after our last event.
But between scheduling, timing, and the reality of trying to curate the strongest possible block of movies in a short window, it became clear that we needed to pause.
And honestly, that pause ended up being really important for many reasons.
