Before we get into everything ahead, Coffeehouse Cinema Vol. 7 is happening this Friday, July 24th, and tickets are still available.

When we started Coffeehouse Cinema, it was simple: bring people together in a coffee shop, screen films we genuinely believed in, and create the kind of thoughtful, communal moviegoing experience we wanted to see more of.

We began with one night in Los Angeles.

Now, we are preparing for our busiest season yet.

Over the next several months, Coffeehouse Cinema will continue its regular Los Angeles screenings, host a few special events, continue expanding in New York, and hold our first international pop-up in London.

All of our regular Coffeehouse Cinema events, from Vol. 7 through Vol. 12, will take place at Re/creation Cafe in Los Angeles.

A Special Evening with Jay Ellis & Friends

We are also excited to use this announcement as an opportunity to share a little more about our special event on Wednesday, July 29.

Jay Ellis, known for his roles in Insecure, Running Point, Freaky Tales, and Top Gun: Maverick, recently reached out to Coffeehouse Cinema to express his excitement about what we are building and his interest in collaborating on an event.

Because of Jay’s very busy schedule, we worked together to create an evening centered around community, collaboration, and educational value.

The event will feature a special panel discussion about what comes next after you have made your film. How do you build momentum around the project? How do you connect it with audiences, festivals, collaborators, and future opportunities? And how can filmmakers think beyond simply completing the work?

Jay will be joined by Imani Davis of the Proof of Concept Film Festival and Holly Stanton, President of Development and Production at Anti-Gravity Academy.

The event will take place Wednesday, July 29, at Recreation Cafe in Los Angeles. More information, including ticket details, will be announced soon.

Expanding the Community

Los Angeles will always be our home base. It is where Coffeehouse Cinema began, where we have been able to experiment, learn, and slowly build a community around the films and filmmakers we believe in.

But part of the larger dream has always been to see whether this kind of experience could live in other cities too.

Not as a copy-and-paste version of Los Angeles, but as something shaped by the filmmakers, audiences, coffeehouses, and creative communities already present in each city.

London will be our first opportunity to take Coffeehouse Cinema outside the United States. New York will soon become our second recurring American home. Both feel like meaningful steps toward what we have imagined Coffeehouse Cinema becoming from the beginning: an active, ongoing cultural brand with a steady rhythm throughout the year.

There is still a great deal to announce, including the films, filmmakers, venues, ticket links, and partners involved in each event. For now, we wanted to give you the calendar and invite you to begin saving the dates.

Seeing all of these events written out together is honestly a little surreal.

Coffeehouse Cinema is still growing. We are still learning what it means to build something sustainable, ambitious, and genuinely valuable to the people who attend. But this next season feels like the clearest expression yet of where we are going.
